Room on the Broom Book Companion

I have finally finished my book companion to go along with one of my favorite Halloween books, called Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson.  I've had this book since grad school (awhile now!) and use it every year at this time.  If you haven't seen the book before, it's about a clumsy witch who loses different possessions along her way.  As she searches for each lost item, a new animal appears that helps the witch find her belongings. The animals then tag along with her on the broom. As each animal makes room on the broom, it causes more tension and the broom eventually breaks causing even more problems for the witch.  In the end, the witch whips up a spell to create a fabulous new broom for herself and her new friends. :)

Here's a glimpse at the book companion. It targets vocabulary, wh questions, 1-2 step directions, naming described objects, categories, articulation, prepositions, and story retell. It's great for pre-k through 5th grade depending on the student's level. You can find my book companion on Teachers Pay Teachers here.

Happy Halloween!

Wild About Books Wednesday Linky Party

Hi friends :)  I am so excited to be linking up with Scarlett, from Speech is Sweet, for her Wild About Books Linky Party (and this is my first EVER linky party)!!  Scarlett hosts a linky party every Wednesday to share ideas about different books and how to use them in therapy.  I love using books in my speech room and feel that they can target a variety of different goals.

The book I'll be talking about today is a great book for fall (it can be used for other seasons, but I love it for fall). It's called Mrs. McNosh and the Great Big Squash, by Sarah Weeks.  (It mentions spring in the book, but I just replace the word with fall). It has lots of great vocabulary to review- squash, elderly, scold, etc.  It's also a good way to discuss fall foods and traditions, like apples and pumpkins (and squash!). The book is perfect for addressing prepositions as well, because as the squash grows bigger and bigger it begins to roll on top of things, through different objects, and at the end, Mrs. McNosh ends up living IN the squash!

Head on over to Speech is Sweet to get some other wonderful book ideas.

Happy Wednesday!

Fall is in the Air!

I am SO excited for fall to be here, it's my absolute FAVORITE season by far. I love the back to school time, the start of a new year, crunching leaves, pumpkin everything, coziness, and the holidays on the way. With fall just around the corner, I have made a fall-themed activity, Bobbing for Apples Receptive and Expressive Language. It includes tasks related to object function, categories, compare and contrast, 'wh' questions, and vocabulary. Great for pre-k through 3rd grade depending on the student's level. Here's a peek at the activity, and you can find it in my TpT store here

Happy Fall!!!!! :)
